Structures of six new ionic compounds featuring diprotonated 1,2-bis(pyridyl)ethane and 1,2-bis(pyridyl)ethylene cations and Br–, Br3–, Cl–, ICl2– counterions have been established for the first time by X-ray diffraction structural analysis. Quantum chemical computations were employed to study intermolecular interactions in the compounds.
