The [Ni(1,3-bdc)(L)(H2O)2]n·2nH2O (1) coordination polymer (1,3-H2bdc = 1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid, L = 4,4'-N,N'-bis(3-pyridylformamide)diphenyl ether) is hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that each nickel(II) atom is six-coordinated with one 1,3-bdc anion, one L ligand, two coordinated and two free water molecules. The one-dimensional chain of complex 1 is formed by Ni
metal and mixed ligands with a Ni⋯Ni distance of 7.780 Å. Furthermore, the
existence of strong hydrogen bonding between chains and layers forms a final
three-dimensional supramolecular structure. The UV-Vis spectroscopy of the title complex is briefly
investigated. Thermal behavior is also examined.
