Three new mononuclear cobalt(III) complexes, [CoL1(4-Brsal)] (1), [CoL3(4-Brsal)] (2), and [Co(L2)2]NO3 (3), where L1, L2, L3 and 4-Brsal are the deprotonated form of N,N'-bis(4-bromosalicylidene)-1,3-propanediamine, N,N'-bis(4-bromosalicylidene)-1,3-pentanediamine,
5-bromo-2-(((3-(methylamino)propyl)imino)methyl)phenol and
4-bromosalicylaldehyde, respectively, were synthesized and characterized by
infrared and electronic spectroscopy, as well as single crystal X-ray
diffraction. The Schiff base ligands coordinate to the Co atoms through all the
O and N atoms. The Co atoms in the complexes are in octahedral coordination. The complexes show effective antimicrobial
activity.
